A quick review of SOTAR's Rondel inflatable kayak, demoed on the Deschutes with some air and big hits, filmed right after the Rogue trip.

What the Rondel is
The Rondel is SOTAR's 8-foot inflatable kayak in the Merlin series. It's short and playful: it spins easily, boofs, and gets air off waves, while the SOTAR build means it can take real abuse. It's a great boat for playing and for paddlers who want something more lively than a longer touring IK.
First impressions
The Rondel loves to be thrown around. It's quick to turn and fun in waves, and it's short enough that you have to stay on top of your strokes to keep it straight. That's the trade-off with any short boat: maximum fun, a bit less tracking. If you want something that tracks more, look at the SOTAR SL.
This demo is where the Rondel story started for me. SOTAR later sent one as a sponsorship boat, which you can see in The Rondel kayak chaos and Clackfest 2026. Comparing options? Read What to Look For in a Whitewater Inflatable Kayak.
Personal trip report: flows, wood and hazards change, and what worked for me that day isn't a rule for your boat or group. Check current conditions, scout, and boat within your training.
